Wild Violets Handmade
In the past few weeks I have had the great pleasure of working with a fellow Midland, Michigan small business owner, Gretchen Schmidt. She is the proprietor of Wild Violets Handmade, where she makes custom hand knit and crochet gifts and accessories. You can find her wares for sale in her Etsy shop.
Let’s start by checking out her final logo designs:
How did we get to the final product? After a great conversation via email, we had some solid jumping off points for creating her brand’s new logo.
Inspiration:
- Eclectic/Shabby Chic Styling
- Floral Elements (since Violet is both her grandmother and daughter’s names; how awesome!)
- Wreath Element possibly
- Deep Plum/Aubergine purples + deep, dusty greens + white
- Coziness/Hygge-licht
Here are some of the first round of concepts I sent for consideration:
She was really drawn to the first and last designs, so we combined her favorite elements of both and with a little more fine tuning we landed on the branding concept below. There is a primary logo (circle), secondary logo (block), and individual flower elements, which gives her a lot of flexibility. I love this kind of design because you can have variety in your branding, depending on your application, but still be super consistent. Here is the at-a-glance branding guide provided after all was finalized.
It’s always such a pleasure to work with other creative entrepreneurs and Gretchen’s logo design was no exception. You can find more information on Wild Violets Handmade on Facebook, Instagram, and shop on Etsy. She is also a vendor at Serendipity Road in downtown Midland, Michigan.
