As a creative child of the 90’s there was no gift more coveted than a Klutz Craft Kit. I grew up with Klutz friendship bracelet kits, cat’s cradle, hair wrap kits, beading kits, endless fun! Now, I’m a mom to two crafty kids and let me tell you… they’re even better now!
Since my kids are home during this Coronavirus pandemic, we have been crafting like crazy and doing school work from home. The girls are always begging me to let them help me with my work, so their writing assignment this week was to write a short review of all the KLUTZ Craft Kits we currently own to create a blog post. They also took the photos of their work with minimal help! I hope you enjoy reading their thoughts on these, seeing their creations, and if one looks fun you can get it to try yourself! These make wonderful gifts for kids and tweens for birthdays and holidays.
This blog post is not sponsored either, we are just big fans on KLUTZ and their kits have been a great source of creative entertainment and self expression during this time of social distancing.

Klutz Mini Grocery Store
What was your favorite part about the kit? My favorite part was arranging and playing the foods when they were done.
What parts did you need help from a grown up with? Spreading the clay on the forms.
Could anything have made it better? Nope.
NOTE FROM MOM: This is a super cute and fun craft kit. The little eyes and cheeks are so small they’re a little hard to handle, but they’re adorable. There were some nice details included too, like a card stock grocery basket, pizza box, and tray for your steak! I like that the clay is more like Model Magic (lighter and a little fluffy) instead of thick like modeling clay). A great three dimensional craft kit.
Klutz Mini Bake Shop
What was your favorite part about the kit? Making the treats was so fun! I like the punch outs you can add on to your treats. The clay is brightly colored.
What parts did you need help from a grown up with? Spreading the clay on the forms.
Could anything have made it better? It would be better if the clay did not dry up so fast.
NOTE FROM MOM: The first kit we purchased had three bags of clay that were dried up. I emailed Klutz and within a day they replied that they would send us a whole new kit! Maddie was excited to get the extra forms, punch outs, and eyes. Their customer service in this experience was phenomenal.
Klutz Crystal Narwhal
What was your favorite part about the kit? Seeing the crystals after they grew!
What parts did you need help from a grown up with? Using the crystal powder.
Could anything have made it better? It did not need to be better.
NOTE FROM MOM: This was very cool and so so cute. I had to help with a lot of the steps, but it was fun to do together. This kit also comes in a unicorn, dragon, and fox version, which I will link here also.
Klutz Sew Mini Gardens
What was your favorite part about the kit? The part where you sew.
What parts did you need help from a grown up with? Threading the needle.
Could anything have made it better? No.
NOTE FROM MOM: This one requires a lot of help for my six year old, but again it’s super fun to do together. The creations are very adorable! I think this would be best suited for older kids if you want something they can do independently.
Klutz Jr. My Fairy Wish Kit
What was your favorite part about the kit? Dressing up the fairy.
What parts did you need help from a grown up with? You do not need help.
Could anything have made it better? It would be better if the sticky dots were more sticky.
NOTE FROM MOM: Loved this kit. Maddie was able to do all the things on her own with this one. She loves changing the outfits, but has resorted to taping things since the sticky dots don’t stay sticky for too long. The little book that comes with it has great ideas for pretending and you can leave wishes with your fairy. Hours of fun.
Klutz BFF Backpack Charms
What was your favorite part about the kit? Sewing them!
What parts did you need help from a grown up with? Threading the needle and tying the threads.
Could anything have made it better? The backing stickers could be stickier.
NOTE FROM MOM: These were a Christmas present from Grandma. This kit is adorable and a great introduction to cross stitch. It’s recommended for 8 and up, which I would agree with. Maddie needed a lot of help, which did frustrate her some, but it was time well spent together. The designs are adorable and I like that it encourages you to share your creations with your friends.

Klutz Melt & Mold Jewelry Kit
What was your favorite part about the kit? That you barely need grown ups to help, and I really like wearing jewelry that I made! My favorite project was the take flight pendant.
What parts did you need help from a grown up with? The grown ups only help by heating up the water.
Could anything have made it better? If it came with more plastic to make more charms!
NOTE FROM MOM: This was a gift from her Aunt for her 9th birthday. She was so excited to make her own jewelry and that she could do most of it on her own. I highly recommend this one for older kids!
Klutz Glitter Clay Charms
What was your favorite part about the kit? The glitter!
What parts did you need help from a grown up with? To bake them.
Could anything have made it better? Easier clay to work with.
NOTE FROM MOM: This clay was a little tougher to work with than others, but if you work it around in your hand for a minute it got easier to use. One frustration of mine was that several of the screw hooks fell out of the baked charms, which has proven very hard to repair. Overall a good kit, and the charm bracelet that comes with it is nice.
